ThaiChrome
A Chrome extension for learning Thai in the wild, highlight any Thai word on a page to get the English meaning, the Thai script, and a phonetic breakdown of how it's actually pronounced.
I live in Thailand, so I’m always reading Thai, and always learning it. ThaiChrome is a Chrome extension that turns any Thai text on the web into a learning moment.
The problem it solves
Written Thai has no spaces between words. When you’re learning, it’s really hard to see where one word ends and the next begins, let alone what a word means or how it’s pronounced.
How it works
Highlight any Thai word on a page and ThaiChrome returns:
- The English meaning.
- The Thai script.
- A phonetic breakdown, how the word is actually pronounced, segmented so the tones and syllables make sense.
It’s powered by a custom Thai language model.
Status
The current build works but the model breaks more than I’d like, so a rebuild of the translation pipeline is in progress. It’s coming relatively soon.
This page is a living document, I’ll update it as the rebuild ships.
